About Us

Created by service-learning students from the University of Newcastle and Central Queensland University in Australia (and initially funded by the New Colombo Plan) Fijian homestays is a community based eco-tourism endeavor with an emphasis on sustainability and cultural immersion. Established in 2017, this project is designed to develop ethical tourism practices throughout Beqa Island, ultimately stimulating the local economy and providing a source of income and empowerment for women in the village (who typically host the homestay). Through the assistance of Lawaki Beach House, guests will be immersed in a cultural experience unique to Fiji and Beqa Island.

Mission

Our Mission is to provide guests (ranging from tourists, educators and adventurers) with an immersive and sustainable ecotourism experience with the traditional Fijian Way of Life on Beqa Island.

Vision

We aim to facilitate learning and adventures by;

1. Connecting visitors with Fijian villages and providing a framework for visitors to structure their unique experience.

2. Education to ensure cultural sensitivity and understanding to create an environment of mutual respect.

3. Respecting culture and customs and minimising external influences on the village way of life.

4. Quality management and monitoring to ensure safe and comfortable homestay accommodation.

5. Adopting environmentally sustainable approaches and embracing sustainable consumption wherever possible.
